Memorial Day 2020

Greetings Troop 253!

MEMORIAL DAY PROJECT

Normally the Troop would be marching in the Memorial Day parade on Monday to honor our fellow Americans that gave the ultimate sacrifice. In the absence of that parade experience I think its important that the Scouts of Troop 253 continue to recognize those sacrifices.

To that end - I would like to do a Troop Memorial Day project, a "Photo Quilt" of each scout, dressed in their Class A uniform holding an American flag.

While you are taking their photo, please remind your Scout that Memorial Day is more than a day off from school.

Please send me your photos by Sunday Evening, and I'll stitch them together.

TROOP ACTIVITIES SUSPENDED

posted Mar 13, 2020, 5:00 PM by Webmaster Troop253

Greetings Troop 253 -

As I'm sure all of you are aware, the COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly.

Yesterday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine banned all indoor and outdoor events with more than 100 attendees and provided the estimate that the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Ohio will likely peak between late April and mid-May.

As such, after consultation with Pastor Amy Gopp Vigne and Committee Chairman Kyle McClain, Troop 253 is suspending all in-person gatherings at Kent UCC until further notice.

I have been in touch with Seneca District Executive Olivia Pilon, All Council and District level activities are likewise cancelled.

In addition, the March, April and May campouts are CANCELLED, and summer activities, including Summer Camp, are up in the air.

As the situation changes we will update the Troop here.

Please stay safe out there.

Lots of love,

Tom Mahon
Scoutmaster,
Troop 253

Summer Camp Orientation Meeting

posted Jun 14, 2019, 10:41 AM by Webmaster Troop253   [ updated Jun 14, 2019, 10:43 AM ]

Parents - Monday, June 17, we will hold a Summer Camp Orientation Meeting - Its especially important for first year camper families to attend. We will also go over the Summer Fundraising events as well as the Sept/Oct Campouts.

After summer camp we do not meet on Mondays until school resumes in August, by which time the Sept campout will be right around the corner (And summer fundraisers will be over!), and there will be very little time to get organized, so now is the time!

Troop 253 awarded over $800 in camperships this year just for summer camp, our fundraisers are critically important in order to continue this economic support to families. Scout and Parent participation is needed for these efforts to be successful!!
