April 2019 Campout - TRIP INFORMATION

WHEN: APR 26-28, 2019
WHERE: Fort Meigs Historic Site, 29100 W River Rd, Perrysburg, OH 43551
ACTIVITY: Live the Life of a Soldier; From April 30 through May 9, 1813, 1200 American troops at Fort Meigs battled against the combined forces of British and Canadian soldiers and Native American warriors. Our Scouts will tour this key frontier fortification and experience the life of a soldier and piece together the past by examining historic artifacts. Through these activities the Scouts will begin to unravel the conflicting interests of Native peoples, European empires, and the desires of a young nation.
DEPART: UCC at 5:45pm Friday, APR 26 (PLEASE ARRIVE AT 5:15pm TO PACK OUT)
RETURN: Sunday April 28 approximately 11am.
COST: $40.00 per Scout, $35.00 per adult - Includes transportation, camping rental, food, and “Life of a Soldier” program fee. MONEY: Is due on or before Monday, 1 April 2019. Make checks payable to BSA Troop 253.
TRAVEL: Pickup Truck, and Car(s). We will travel in Class “A” Uniforms.
PACK: Weather appropriate gear for tent camping. The program runs rain or shine.

March 2019 Campout - TRIP INFORMATION

WHEN: MAR 23-24, 2019
WHERE: Camping: Cleveland Zoo, Wolf Wilderness Cabin.
ACTIVITY: VETERINARIAN MEDICINE MERIT BADGE & Cleveland Zoo Visit. Overnights begin promptly at 7 p.m. and ends the following morning at 10 a.m. Troop will get a behind the scenes animal encounter and meet with one of the Zoo Veterinarian Technicians. The Zoo provides Blue Cards and Merit Badge Counselor. Program covers all the items required to earn the Veterinarian Medicine Merit Badge
DEPART: UCC at 6:00pm Saturday, MAR 23 (PLEASE ARRIVE AT 5:45pm TO PACK OUT)
RETURN: Program ends at 10am Sunday MAR 24, Scouts have free access to the Zoo the rest of the day, so families may opt to stay as long as the wish.
COST: $42.00 per person - includes transportation, camping rental, food, Zoo Entry and all Merit Badge materials.
MONEY: $42 is due on or before Monday, 25 FEB 2019. Make Checks payable to BSA Troop 253 – however RSVPs are due by Wednesday FEB 6, 2019.

PACK: Sleeping bags and pillows, appropriate clothing for the predicted weather (sleepwear, change of clothes, towel, wash cloth, toiletries, outdoor garments, and comfortable shoes). The program runs rain or shine.

When: FEB 22-24
Where: Camping: DELAWARE STATE PARK, Group Campsite B
Activity: Caving at Ohio Caverns, 2210 East State Route 245 West Liberty, Ohio 43357
Depart: UCC at 6:00pm Friday, FEB 22 (PLEASE ARRIVE AT 5:30PM TO PACK OUT)
Return: UCC approx 11am, Sunday, FEB 24
Cost: $35.00 per person - includes transportation, camping rental, food and entry fee to Ohio Caverns

Scout Sunday is Feb 10 - In addition to Troop 253 there are will be participants from GSUSA Troop 90300 and Cub Scouts from Pack 3256.

Also, a reminder that the Troop prepares a pancake breakfast immediately following the service for the congregation, even if you or your Scout does not worship with UCC, PLEASE plan on helping prepare and serve the meal!! Proceeds go to the UCC, which has been Troop 253's home for over 100 years, lets support our Chartering Organization!!

Christmas party December 17

Troop 253 Christmas Party is coming up on Monday Dec 17. We will do our ever popular variation of “Yankee Swap” gift exchange game. if you want to play please bring a wrapped gift for the exchange game with a price of approximately $15. 

The game goes as follows…

All the wrapped presents are placed in the middle of our circle. Each player picks a number from a hat to determine the order of selection. The person who picks the first gift selects whatever one they like from the pile, leaving it wrapped. Then the number two participant can either pick a gift from the pile OR can steal the gift from the first picker. This continues until the last person picks. Participants can re-steal their first choice back, and if a participant manages to re-steal their gift three times they are ’safe’ from having it stolen again. Lots of fun.

Please bring something snack related to share, Christmas Cookies are always good.

Meeting starts at our usual 7pm.

To foster multicultural diversity and awareness on campus, International Student and Scholar Services at the Office of Global Education sponsors a series of Cultural Cafés every semester. Each month, students, faculty and staff are invited to the informal and free Café that seeks to educate and familiarize them about the home countries of our international students.

Heritage Fest Cotton Candy Booth

Folks - 

The Heritage Fest - and the Troop's one big fundraiser of the year, is just two weeks away!!

Please click here  to sign up sheet to work our Cotton Candy Booth - please click the link and sign up to volunteer.

All proceeds go to the Troop - to fund the purchase of gear, operating expenses and scholarships.

Please consider working at least two shifts as we have to staff the booth for 14 hours!!

Scouts, Adult Leaders and Parents are all encouraged to volunteer!

Summer Camp Status Update

Troop 253 Family:

As of today, June 12, 2018 - We have only TWO Monday Troop Meetings left before Summer Camp! We do not meet as a Troop during the week of July 4.

At this point Campers should be focused on three things:
1. Complete Field Uniform (Class A) minus sash
2. Updated Health Form, Parts A, B & C
3. Gathering Personal Equipment

Both the Health Form and Equipment List are on the Forms/Downloads page.

Pack 3250 Crossover

Pack 3250 Details in Brief

When: Saturday June 2, Dinner starts at 6pm, crossover should be done 8pmish

Where: Camp Spelmen - about 15 minute ride from Kent

Activity: To represent the Troop and support the Scouts of 3250 at their Crossover ceremony

Cost: $0 - Dinner is provided by Pack 3250

Misc: We have three Scouts confirmed so far, Mr. Mahon is providing a ride from Kent if anyone else wants a ride get in touch with him.
